Scioto is one of the 88 counties in Ohio. It is not part of a Metropolitan Area. Its 1999 population of 80,353 ranked 32nd in the State.
PER CAPITA PERSONAL INCOME
In 1999, Scioto had a per capita personal income (PCPI) of $18,978. This PCPI ranked 72nd in the State, and was 70 percent of the State average, $27,171, and 66 percent of the national average, $28,546. The 1999 PCPI reflected an increase of 3.2 percent from 1998. The 1998-99 State change was 3.7 percent and the national change was 4.5 percent.
TOTAL PERSONAL INCOME
In 1999, Scioto had a total personal income (TPI) of $1,524,947*. This TPI ranked 36th in the State and accounted for 0.5 percent of the State total. The 1999 TPI reflected an increase of 2.7 percent from 1998. The 1998-99 State change was 3.9 percent and the national change was 5.4 percent.
COMPONENTS OF TOTAL PERSONAL INCOME
Total personal income (TPI) includes the earnings (wages and salaries, other labor income, proprietors' income); dividends, interest, and rent; and transfer payments received by the residents of Scioto. In 1999, earnings were 56.0 percent of TPI; dividends, interest, and rent were 16.2 percent; and transfer payments were 27.8 percent. From 1998 to 1999, earnings increased 2.8 percent; dividends, interest, and rent increased 4.0 percent; and transfer payments increased 1.6 percent.
EARNINGS BY INDUSTRY
Earnings by persons employed in Scioto increased from $773,071* in 1998 to $796,200* in 1999, an increase of 3.0 percent. The largest industries in 1999 were services, 27.1 percent of earnings; state and local government, 24.1 percent; and retail trade, 13.6 percent. Of the industries that accounted for at least 5 percent of earnings in 1999, the slowest growing from 1998 to 1999 was nondurable goods manufacturing (6.3 percent of earnings in 1999), which increased 0.5 percent; the fastest was construction (6.7 percent of earnings in 1999), which increased 4.8 percent.
