We are still working on updating our Road Record Book. The Road Book is made up of all County and Township Roads telling how and when each road was established. It also tells which of the Roads were surveyed along the way. This information from our Road Record Book will eventually be yet another layer added to our Computerized Tax Maps. The most important part of this job is the upkeep of the maps. Without this you have nothing. Some of the changes are as basic as changing the names of property owners and when a new survey comes in changing the property lines. We also make changes to the map when roads and alleys have been vacated, and adding new roads and subdivisions as they are developed. Also we are getting closer to having all of our software programs to work together so that we can put our Computerized Mapping onto a CD. We will then be able to offer this to the public to use on their home computers. This will be most beneficial to Real Estate Agents and Surveyors. We are scanning and laminating ole records to help preserve them. I think this is a worthwhile project and will certainly go far to keep our county history from fading away.

Stan Stonerock, our Sign Maintenance Supervisor, has been a little more busy than normal these past few weeks. He has been traveling the county roads at night checking to see that all of our signs have the proper reflectivity. This is important because by law the reflectivity of the signs has to meet a specific standard. If the reflecting material wears off or fades the signs lose their ability to reflect off an automobile's headlights and the driver might be unable to see the sign, possibly causing an accident. We try to do this checking at least once a year to keep our signs up to standard.
