![]() "Moundbuilders"
The central picture of this mural reveals an overview of some of the mound structure in the Portsmouth area long before this region was inhabited by the white man. A line-up of the two horseshoe-shaped mounds in what is now known as Mound Park can be seen coursing southeastward across the Ohio River to a "medicine wheel" located at the Hardin Farm near Siloam, KY. This line-up of mounds is said to have equinoctial importance to the moundbuilders.
Surrounding the central picture of the mural are sketches of other earthenworks of this area, along with pictures of stone pottery and stone pipes. Completed in 1995.
