"Jim Thorpe and the Portsmouth Shoe-Steels" This mural shows a likeness of Jim Thorpe taken from a photograph when he played college football at Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Alongside is a photograph showing the Portsmouth Shoe-Steels in a practice session in 1927 at the former Labold Field which was located south of Williams Street. Jim Thorpe was the player-coach of the Portsmouth Shoe-Steels during their final season. Completed in 1994.
