"Platting the City of Portsmouth, 1803" Although the City of Portsmouth was not officially founded until 1815, the original purchase of land and platting of the city occurred in 1803. The mural represents a free-hand sketch of Henry Massie at a surveyor's desk drawing the original plat of Portsmouth which is pictured below. Several of the original streets carry the same names today. Completed in 1994.
