Steel Industry The Steel Industry mural shows three images from the 1960's. The left panel (pictured above) is the blast furnace which converted iron ore to molten iron The center panel shows the molten iron being poured onto an open hearth furnace for conversion into steel. The molten steel from the open hearth furnaces was cast into ingots, which were rolled into sheet and rod products. the right panel of the mural shows the final rolling process in the hot strip mill. Completed in 1996.
